The man standing in the center of my office had a distinct otherworldly air about him. Not the I’m-a-supernatural air. Those were a dime a dozen here in the Fringe. No, this guy’s body was wreathed in menace and a very distinct I-am-not-of-this-world vibe.
I tightened my grip on my blade, grateful for the blocker, even though I wasn’t sure it would stop whatever mojo he was throwing. He seemed too large standing in my teeny office. His muscled, tattooed arms were trapped in a cream tee, eyes on the view outside my grimy window.
“Hey, you. How’d you get in?”
He blinked and turned to face me, giving me a full-on view of his face, the kind of face that said he did bad things but looked good while doing them. Dark eyes, straight dark brows, close-cropped dark hair, and a mischievous mouth.
I couldn’t get a lock on what type of supe he was, though. “What are you?”
“Bored of waiting. Business hours say 12-6 p.m.”
“Yeah, well, I was on business.”
He inhaled, then smirked. “I didn’t know you offered those kinds of services.”
So he could smell the sex on me. Big fucking deal.
“Keen sense of smell. My turn.” I sniffed the air. “You don’t smell demon, Lycan, or vamp. You don’t have the sweet tang of a fae, and you are most definitely not human.”
“My nature isn’t important, Nyx. All you need to worry about is how you’ll spend the money I’m willing to pay you.” His mouth tipped up in a smile that had too much of a cocky edge to it for my liking.
The only person who got to be cocky in my office was me.
